How to read this figure

Method

FOB value of the country's natural honey exports in the year divided by their net weight. The database publishes the value and the weight but not their ratio, so the observatory calculates the price. It is the total row for heading 0409, natural honey, to the world, with no breakdown by mode of transport or customs procedure.

Limitations

This is an average price: if a country changes the mix of what it sells, the price moves even if no buyer pays a different price. The New Zealand price includes manuka honey, which the tariff heading does not separate from the rest and which sells far above bulk honey, so it should not be compared with the Chilean price as if it were the same commodity. Each country reports its own trade under its own recording criteria, and the database does not reconcile them with one another. The most recent year may change as countries complete or correct what they report. The source publishes no named licence; its terms allow transformed data to be redistributed, so the figure is published rather than the original file.

Confidentiality

No threshold: this is the trade aggregate each country reports on its own exports, not calculated over identifiable people or firms.

Revision policy

The whole series is recalculated when the agency publishes a new edition, and the previous version is kept as an erratum with its reason.
