How to read this figure
Method
CIF value of the honey the European Union imports in the year divided by its net weight, both as the European Union reports them to UN Comtrade. The database publishes the value and the weight but not their ratio, so the observatory calculates the price.
Limitations
The figure is for the European Union as a bloc, with the members UN Comtrade assigns to it in each year; if membership changes, different years do not cover the same countries. It is a CIF price, which includes freight and insurance, so it is not directly comparable with a FOB export price. The source publishes no named licence; its terms allow transformed data to be redistributed, so the calculated price is published rather than the original file.
Confidentiality
No threshold: this is an aggregate market price, not calculated over identifiable people or firms.
Revision policy
The whole series is recalculated when the agency publishes a new edition, and the previous version is kept as an erratum with its reason.
