How to read this figure
Method
National total from the crop table in the annual report of the United States agricultural statistics service (NASS). Editions from March 2020 publish it in dollars per pound; earlier ones in cents, which are converted to dollars as NASS itself did when it changed unit. Each crop year is taken from the most recent edition that publishes it.
Limitations
The figure is the United States total; the per-state rows are not published. The report announces an annual revision, which covers the previous year's crop, and another after each agricultural census, with no announced date. A figure marked as final has passed the annual revision but may still change after the census one. The series is in dollars per pound and the Chilean export series in dollars per kilogram, so they are not compared without converting. The report has been published as text since the 1995 edition, which covers the 1993 and 1994 crops, and the series starts there.
Confidentiality
No threshold: this is an aggregate market price, not calculated over identifiable people or firms.
Revision policy
The whole series is recalculated when the agency publishes a new edition, and the previous version is kept as an erratum with its reason.
